I want to thank Sonny and his wife Becky of the Maplehurst Inn in Knoxville Tennessee. We were treated like Loved family members from the moment we arrived. It was one of the nicest experiences we have ever had in our travels. Sonny is a GREAT host with extensive knowledge of Knoxville Tennesse and an enthusiatistic fan of the University of Tennessee Football team. He gave us the feel of East Tennessee culture with trips to the Great Smoky Mountains, the local cemetary and the Historic Homes on tour in Knoxville. I enjoyed every day. We saw the U. T. Neyland Stadium, the Volunteer Landing waterfront with its fountains, a Tennessee River paddleboat, the Houseboats in the Marina, and a supper at Mo's Egyptian eatery with the most fabulous Award winning Greek Salad. Thank you Sonny for giving us true Southern Hospitality and renewing our spirits.

We stayed at the Maplehurst Inn in Knoxville Tennessee to see the football game at Neyland Stadium at the University of Tennessee in September. What a cool place. We had our breakfast personally cooked by Sonny the InnKeeper and Host. He is a super guy and knows all the Great spots of interest in Knoxville. I read the Maplehurst Inn was like a weekend visit at your grandma's place...it sure is. Antique firniture, Lace, Reading rooms, a palor with a piano, and treated like family, what more could you want !!! We had a super time...Thanks Sonny

Come on Home to the Maplehurst Inn if you want Southern hospitality and local history. Sonny knows where all the great places to see are. We spent days soaking up the local cultural sites and evenings eating at the best restaurants in the city ! (You have to go to a local eatery called Mo's with great Egyptian Food. ) We enjoyed the home feeling of the Maplehurst Inn and the people staying there were instant friends. We will be back as soon as we can. Thanks to Sonny we felt right at home.

If you are looking for a relaxing, no pressure, no time constraints, just have a peaceful, private weekend, then the Maplehurst Inn is your kind of place. We arrived late and the key was waiting for us. We got up early and there was plenty of food and variety. We needed email connection and there was WIFI at no charge. We got lost and Sonny directed us back. We were treated like family. Sitting at breakfast was a real treat. We exchanged stories with the other guests and we had a great time. We all met downtown in Knoxville and had supper like one big family. The bed was soft, the room was neat, the pictures and antiques were charming, and we had a terrific time.

We had a real nice time at the Maplehurst Inn Bed and Breakfast. We went to Knoxville Tennessee for the Tennessee Football game and stayed at the Inn. The location is amazing, just 2 - 3 blocks to everything, the Stadium, Tennessee River, Volunteer Landing, walk to downtown and the Paddleboat and the Knoxville marina. We had a blast on the houseboats for the after game party! Sonny knows everyone in town and we had a weekend of fun. This is the place to stay for a weekend in the heart of Knoxville. Call Sonny and tell him the Floridians sent you and ask for directions to Mo's Egyptian restaurant The King Tut Inn... what a blast !!!... Thanks Sonny !

We stopped in Knoxville Tennessee on our way to Atlanta. We stayed at a perfect little Bed and Breakfast called the Maplehurst Inn. Sonny was our host and he did everyting to make our stay pleasant. We had a wonderful time in the palor playing piano and reminiscing about the old times. The room was comfortable and we had a private bath. The location is right off route 75 and 40 so we had access to everywhere. We took a trip on the paddleboat down the Tennessee River and went up to the Sunsphere and saw all of Knoxville and the Smoky Mountains in the background. This is a great place to stop for a day or two. Put it on your list.

My wife and I had a very nice stay at the Maplehurst Inn in Knoxville Tennessee. We visited the historic cemeteries, the Norris Dam, Volunteer Landing, Tennessee Riverboat, Sunsphere and 1982 Worlds Fair Park, The Old City, Neyland Stadium, Gatlinburg and The Smoky Mountains.
We were fortunate to have Sonny, the owner, every morning over breakfast, guide us to the city’s best spots for the day’s excursion. Don’t miss Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains !!
Sonny is helpful and always available with answers.
You will not find a better host in the city.
This Inn was a real treat for us.

Charming...charming ...charming !!! From the front entry with its beautiful cut glass vase to the hospitality of the our host Sonny. You will enjoy a quiet and relaxing weekend. The Maplehurst Inn is located close to everything. We spent a wonderful weekend touring the downtown Knoxville area. Sonny gave us local area maps and directions. The scenery is amazing and the history of this city is rich. We loved the Tennessee River paddleboat and visited with our new found Knoxville friends at the Marina on their Houseboat. We got to see the University of Tennessee Neyland Stadium and we went up to the fourth floor Glass Room of the Sunsphere at the World's Fair Park next to the Convention Center. The Inn was always peaceful to come back to at the end of our Very Full days. Sonny always had some snacks out at night downstairs in the Dining room. We slept in late the last day and savored the calm and quiet. He did not rush us out .. a real treat when you are traveling.

My husband and I were traveling to visit friends in Knoxville for a week. We happened upon the Maplehurst Inn. It is a simply wonderful Inn with the nicest owner. Sonny is as accomodating as can be and always has a nice cup of tea brewing. I especially enjoyed a quiet evening in the parlor after a day of visiting with friends and shopping downtown. The peaceful surroundings and nice room made us want to stay longer. I liked all the antique furniture and beautiful pictures everywhere. The other guests were pleasant and we all shared stories at breakfast every morning. Our room was neat, clean, cool and taken care of everyday. I am not sure where the other reviewers stayed but we were very pleased with our accomodations. I would happily recommend the Maplehurst Inn to my friends who appreciate the look, feel, and setting of an old european Bed and Breakfast. Try it you'll like it.

I would like to thank Sonny, the Innkeeper/Host/Owner of the Maplehurst Inn in Knoxville Tennessee.
My wife and I were on I-75 on our way from Indiana to Florida with a Ford F-550 that we purchased and were driving home.
At the top of a steep Mountain stretch 15 miles from the Kentucky / Tennessee border we lost complete power and coasted to a stop just beyond a deep ravine against the carved out mountain side.

(We had only moments earlier called a Bed and Breakfast that we determined would be about another 1.5 hours drive ahead in Tennessee, The Maplehurst Inn.)

After contacting AAA and being sent the kindest tow truck driver in Kentucky, we found that the truck would need repairs and it was now 10pm Saturday night.

He suggested that we find a place to stay for the night. He was an hour back North where we had just come from and we decided to tow south. We asked if he would be willing to tow the truck to a Bed and Breakfast that we had reserved in Knoxville about 85 miles south. He agreed and we started down the highway toward Tennessee.

During the course of that evening I called Sonny 4 times. He was always patient and helpful and put us at ease. He said he would be there and the room would be waiting. He gave us directions and we and our tow truck driver with a 20’ ft tow bed with our massive Ford F-550 on top eventually made it to Knoxville and the Maplehurst Inn around 11 pm.

To our utter amazement there were thousands and thousands of people walking the streets. We pulled up outside the front of the Inn and every parking spot in town was taken. The Church lot next door was packed and throngs of people congested the road in front and now behind our Truck and Tow truck.
Sonny and Becky stared at us in disbelief.

I asked where I might park the pick-up and he laughed and shook his head and said “that is no pick-up”.

It seems that we had chosen a Bed and Breakfast that was only 2 BLOCKS from the University of Tennessee Football Stadium on an important game night and had arrived at the moment when 104,000 people were leaving the stadium after winning the game for Tennessee!

Sonny jumped in his car and went on a search for a nearby parking place that would allow the Tow truck driver, Mr. CAN DO IT NO MATTER WHAT, lower our behemoth into a vacant spot.

My wife in the mean time took her shattered nerves into the Inn.
She never lost her cool during this entire ordeal;
Not when we lost power on the Mountain downside at 70 miles an hour, not when I stopped up against the carved out rock Wall that all night long sent rocks, shards and pebbles down around us, not when I stood out on the edge of the highway directing 18 wheelers away from the legs of our tow truck driver as he struggled under our Truck to try and get it going, and not even when we ignored her reiterated directions from Sonny,” DO NOT get on I 40 East, DO NOT get on I 40 West…Exit on Henley street” when we passed Henley Street and got on I 40.

Sonny found the spot, the driver dropped the truck, like the PRO he is, right into the spot, and Sonny drove me back to the Maplehurst Inn and my wife.

Sonny then got on the phone…at 11:20 at night and called every restaurant around till he found one open for us, Calhoun’s on the Waterfront of The Volunteer Landing.

We ate and walked back to the Inn.

Our room was a cool haven of calm and peace called the Rose room. IT WAS WONDERFUL!

The next day, and for the following 5 days, as the truck was repaired, Sonny and Becky became like family to us.
• He let me use his transportation to go to the Auto parts store on Sunday to see if I could repair the truck myself.
• He offered his cell phone for our use after our cell phone batteries died.
• He found a Ford Dealer that was willing to work on the vehicle on Tuesday.
• He took us to see beautiful Mountain Top Views and Lakefronts as we waited for the diagnosis to take our mind off our worries
• He and Becky had us to their home for supper in the evening.
• Sonny and Becky took us on a tour of Gatlinburg and on to the Smoky Mountains. http://www.gatlinburg.com/ (Unbelievable Beauty and Majesty)
• Sonny and Becky took us to Downtown Knoxville for an evening of Local cultural discovery.
• Sonny Gave us our choice of rooms to stay in at the Inn…(my wife said ours was charming.)
• Sonny took us to an Egyptian restaurant that only the locals know about. If you ever get the chance to stay in Knoxville…Go To MO’S KING TUT GRILL. It is worth the trip!
• Sonny took us to see the University of Tennessee Neyland Stadium…The Norris Dam (WOW what a place) and a historic Grist mill.
• They drove us through Old City and we saw Craftsmen homes that had been restored to their original Beauty.
• They took us on an evening tour of the historic cemeteries in the city.
• And when the Truck was repaired he drove us to the Ford dealership and gave the repair his approval.

It was a week like no other in our lives. We threw a dart at a map for a casual one night stay and ended up making a family like friendship that we will to keep precious for all our days.

Thank you Sonny and Becky. There are not enough words to express our appreciation for your gracious good will toward us.

Dear Sonny,
We had a great time in Tennessee. Thank you for the directions to the Smoky Mountains Heartland Little River Wedding Chapel. We loved the area and the price is right. We thought you treated us special because we were looking for a wedding site but from talking with your other guests we now know you treat everyone special. Thanks for all your personal input and excitement.

My Mom and I stayed at the Maplehurst Inn Bed and Breakfast  while looking for some land or a building lot or a home to purchase for retirement.

We are from Florida and it is too expensive to retire and Sonny had told us about the great East Tennessee buys available to "Half backs" as we are called...Those who had originally lived and worked in the North then retired or semi-retired to Florida only to find ever rising insurance rates and taxes pushing us out and subsequently moving "halfway back" settling around the Tennesse area .

He was very knowledgable about the Tennessee real estate market and explained why East Tennessee is the new place for retirees...Low, low taxes and affordable housing and land.

He drove us around explaining the different areas and discussed the available shopping and necessary doctor and hospital distances. He sent us to see Knoxville's neighboring areas and we fell in love with the natural beauty of Tennessee.

We would also like to thank Sonny for his daily updates and for caring about us.  We have decided that East Tennesse will be our home. Thank you for you hospitality !
